ABOUT PtCRIN
ORGANIZATION

PtCRIN - Portuguese Clinical Research Infrastructure Network was first created in 2012 under the framework of the FP7 (Seventh Framework Program) Project ECRIN-IA: European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network – Integrating Activity.
In 2013, we moved from an individual-based network to a national consortium that comprises 10 health care units, one non-for-profit clinical research organization and 3 universities with expertise in clinical research. This organization model ensures the commitment of health units with research and strengths the co-operation between policy makers, and other stakeholders, in health and in research.

PtCRIN is a distributed nationwide infrastructure integrated on the Portuguese Research Infrastructure Roadmap. PtCRIN’s 26 member institutions — including health units, universities, and research institutes — provide a robust network that supports these activities (details of each member here). The infrastructure includes five academic Clinical Trial Units (CTUs) dedicated to ensuring efficient, high-quality execution of academic multinational clinical studies on a non-profit basis. All studies conducted through PtCRIN adhere to internationally recognized ethical and scientific standards, maintaining rigorous quality across clinical research phases.

PtCRIN Core team is currently based at ULS de Coimbra, who is responsible for the management office.
